As part of the requirements for my masters degree, I completed a three week action research project in my first grade classroom entitled "Impact of Expressive Writing and Drawing on Math Anxiety." This study implemented the strategy of expressive writing and drawing daily, as well as thinking and talking positively, and examined and addressed the gender gap seen in the classroom in terms of math anxiety. It proved to be successful and reduced math anxiety in my students. The pre-survey I distributed determined that there were 13 out of 21 students that were anxious about math. The post-survey showed only six students out of 21 remained anxious about math. It was a lengthy and detailed process, but one I learned a tremendous amount from and enjoyed fully. I absolutely love researching, gathering data, and finding ways to better help my students. To view the complete 35 page write-up, please contact me directly.
