Summary
Using knowledge and experiences of effective oral, visual and media communication procedures and techniques to get students to be active in asking questions, working together on projects, and supporting social interactions in the classroom.
Common Artifact- 3rd Grade Measurement Clinical Experience
Measurement is not something that is easy to comprehend. We ad several students who had a difficult time with English, so we learned to use oral and visual cues by using our hands to demonstrate what we meant. When we made the material understandable, the students were able to solicit their ideas and problem solving strategies without fear of rejection or judgment. Students were given the chance to share their results, were encouraged to explain their thinking processes, and ask questions during whole group discussion and targeted small group work. The use of the Smart board incorporated new technology that further aided and guided student interaction and learning. Below is a picture of the story used.

· Power of Words Journal–Using knowledge of reinforcing, redirecting and reminding language. We implemented these language strategies in our Spring Semester 1st Grade Lit Block Clinical and followed up with video analysis and reflection.
· Diversity training from the Diversity Council which helped us understand how cultural and gender issues that affect classroom learning and development. This training helped us understand how communication differences can be overcome to create a healthy classroom environment/community.
· InSciEd/Out Training we got to see how communication occurs in a scientific environment and how the variety of media and educational technology can be applied to an elementary classroom to encourage student learning.
