A teacher should be able to provide an encouraging learning environment that will create student engagement, student motivation, and a positive interaction between all students in the class. A teacher must also be able to control the classroom environment through classroom management and make sure students are respected at the same time.
Common Artifact- Power of our Words Journaling and Rubric Reflection
Through learning about the Power of Our Words I developed an understanding of how to interact with students in a way that will encourage learning, engagement, self-correction, and positive interactions with students. The classroom environment begins with the teacher's language and attitude. I used the ideas I read about and had to reflect on my progress in order to continue my learning. This is an example of the rubric I used to critque myself.

Morning Meetings and Activities
To create a comfortable and accepting classroom environment, I had the students do morning meetings and be part of my math lessons. I also, with my cooperating teacher, posted a room motto that we could all follow. When you guide students to have meaningful social interactions, they respect each other and respect you as the teacher. The first picture is our motto hung at the front of the room. The second is a fun morning meeting I did with my kiddos. We all stood in a circle, chose a voice to greet our neighbor in, and then used that voice to say, "Good morning." The third picture is the favorite starburst flavor graph we used when talking about graphs.

Bucket Filler Activity
I incorporated a positive intervention activity when I was confronted with some bullying issues. Every other day students would be assigned to a random secret classmate. By the end of the day, they would put in a nice note for that classmate.
